As a Volunteer You Would:
Our training is comprehensive and free. You would attend 65 hours of sessions on the following topics:

* Active Listening
* Crisis & Suicide Intervention
* Stress Management & Problem Solving
* Abuse & Violence
* Addiction & Grief
* Family Issues
* Mental Health
* Social Issues
* As well as on-going training topics to help you stay informed
 
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers:

* Are asked to commit to a minimum of 6 months of volunteering
* Are expected to volunteer 3-4 shifts per month
* Should be compassionate, understanding and non-judgmental

Other things to consider before applying:
Chimo Helpline has two training sessions a year in which we accept up to 20 volunteers (per training).

Training begins the last weekend of September and January.
Application deadlines are the 18th of September and January.

Training Schedule:
Week 1: Saturday & Sunday (9:00 am - 5:00 pm - may finish early)
Wednesday (following the weekend)
Week 2: Wednesday
Week 3: Wednesday

Saturday and Sunday - Suicide Intervention (9:00 am - 5:00 pm - may finish early).
All training sessions are mandatory. We cannot allow anyone to take calls unless they have their Suicide Intervention Certificate.
Security checks will be required.

Due to the type of calls and responsibility to the community, Chimo reserves the right to refuse or discontinue a volunteer's participation in training.
